The Bluestone River
The Bluestone River originates at the foot of East River Mountain in Tazewell County, Virginia. From it's spring fed headwaters, it charts a course to the northeast, where it joins the mighty New River in Bluestone State Park, West Virginia. Along its journey, the Bluestone winds its way though historic Coal County in Bramwell, meanders through rich farmland in Spanishburg, and charges over Class III rapids through the Wild and Scenic Bluestone River Gorge, offering diverse paddling experiences for novices and experts alike.
The Bluestone River Water Trail is an ongoing effort to provide information about paddling the Bluestone, improve public access to the River, and inspire conservation efforts on West Virginia's only "Wild and Scenic" waterway. In this site, you will find: (1) information on how to Paddle the River safely today. (2) Updates on the status of the Bluestone River Water Trail. And (3) information about ongoing clean up and Conservation efforts. We hope that the Bluestone can contribute as much joy and inspiration to your life as it has to ours, and that together, we can work toward the day when Our River is among the cleanest and most widely enjoyed public waterways in America.
